Welcome to Wrens class page.

Mrs Curtis and Mrs Shanks work together in Wrens reception class and are supported by Miss Keun, our classroom teaching assistant.

Here in Wrens we have lots of fun learning through play and exploration of the world around us. We provide the children a curriculum that is both creative and engaging, which we think helps inspire the minds of our children. This year we aim to cover the following topics:

Autumn 1 - All About Me

Autumn 2 - Transport: Past and Present

Spring 1 - Space

Spring 2 - Growing and Changing

Summer 1 - Kings and Queens

Summer 2 - Stories from the Past

Children in Wrens class will learn through exploration, by investigating and communicating with the environment around them. During continuous provision, the children will be supported by the adults in class and encouraged to problem solve, develop and attempt new ideas and concepts through play. Weekly challenges will allow the children to expand on their prior knowledge as well as discover new skills. The children will also participate in weekly adult guided sessions in Maths and English, which will feed back into their child-initiated play.

Here in Wrens we will begin to introduce the children to phonics sessions, this term, following the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised Scheme. This will enable the children to make confident attempts at reading and writing and encourage them to become independent learners as they near the end of reception. We also aim to provide opportunities for children to engage short daily mathematics lessons, whole-class Handwriting, RE, PHSE, Music and Topic lessons.
